Music Events:

  • 01-08 - The U.S. Postal service issues an Elvis Presley stamp. The design was voted on in February of 1992.

  • 01-12 - Cream reunites for a performance at their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony in Los Angeles, California. Other inductees include Creedence Clearwater Revival, Ruth Brown, The Doors, Van Morrison, and Sly & The Family Stone.

  • 01-13 - Bobby Brown is arrested in Augusta, Georgia for simulating a sex act onstage.

  • 02-10 - Oprah Winfrey interviews Michael Jackson during a prime time special. It is Jackson's first interview in 15 years.

  • 03-06 - Whitney Houston's single "I Will Always Love You" posts its 14th week at number one, becoming the longest running #1 single of all time (though this would be broken in 1996).

  • 03-20 - Trumpeter/composer Wynton Marsalis records In This House, On This Morning

  • 03-25 - Guitarist John McLaughlin records his tribute to Bill Evans, Time Remembered

  • 04-16 - Paul McCartney headlines a concert at the Hollywood Bowl to celebrate "Earth Day". Other performers included Ringo Starr, Steve Miller and Don Henley

  • 04-24 - Willie Nelson, John Cougar Mellencamp, Neil Young and more than 30 other artists perform at Farm Aid 6 in Ames, Iowa

  • 04-29 - An animated version of Barry White appears on an episode of The Simpsons.

  • 06-04 - Kurt Cobain was arrested after a dispute at his house in Seattle; the disagreement allegedly concerned the Nirvana's guitarist's collection of firearms.

  • 06-05 - Toby Keith's debut single, "Should Have Been a Cowboy," topped the charts

  • 06-07 - Prince announces that he is changing his name to an unpronouncable symbol.

  • 06-11 - Patty Loveless's single "Blame It On Your Heart" goes to #1

  • 07-03 - Alison Krauss joined the the Grand Ole Opry.

  • 07-10 - Weak recorded by SWV (Sisters with Voices) begins a run of 2 weeks at #1 on Billboard''s Hot 100.

  • 07-17 - Alan Jackson's "Chattahoochee" began a four-week stay at #1 on the country singles chart

  • 07-24 - Can't Help Falling in Love recorded by UB40 begins a run of 7 weeks at #1 on Billboard''s Hot 100.

  • 07-30 - Martina McBride's "My Baby Loves Me" charted

  • 07-31 - Whoomp! (There It Is) recorded by Tag Team peaks at #2 on the Top 100 chart for 7 weeks.

  • 08-01 - First performance of Ellen Taaffe Zwilich's Concerto for Horn and String Orchestra.

  • 08-28 - Bruce Dickinson plays his final show with Iron Maiden (until his return in 1999). The show was broadcast on British television, and later released on VHS and dvd.

  • 09-21 - Nirvana's final studio album, In Utero, is released.
